Dettol Soap Dispenser Repair

The following describes the "repair" of a Dettol no-touch soap dispenser, which was producing too much soap then flashing the red light.

The root cause is that the design is not tolerant to the high voltage provided by good quality fresh batteries.  A diode was inserted in the circuit to ensure it works with fresh batteries.

  1. Hi Adrian,

Got your blog searched out, when I was looking for similar troubles in my dettol no touch.

    1. I have checked the voltage of each of the 4 AA cells using a multimeter, it is around 1.49 each.

    2. Strangely enough my unit is showing erratic and random behaviour, with all batteries loaded up, it sometime does not turns on for no apparent reason. I have double checked the battery polarity and cover fitting in place. Then once in a while it does activates with initial 5-6 blinks of the red light.

    3. When i bought it a month ago or so, it was working fine and only dispensing one dose of the liquid soap (with new stock batteries from the box), however suddenly it is behaving too much of a spendthrift. In one time , it now gives a full 3-4 doses and full cycles of the pump and motor inside, hence the liquid soap just keeps pouring out, finishing the stock for 2 weeks in 2 days.

    4. I have already tried cleaning the sensor. I am not an electronic techie at all to sold a diode as shown in your guide.

    5. Is there any other fix for a regular joe like me, which can be done to save my capital investment.

    Thanks for your reply.

  3. Hi
Which diode are you using? I am going to order one, but I don't know which v or amp should I use?
    Thank you.

  5. Not sure but any silicon diode that fits would be ok. e.g. 1n4148 / ll4148
I think the design has been fixed now so it's easier to buy a new one! They are very cheap.

  8. recently my dispenser started working in reverse direction. Instead of pouring the liquid from inside to outside, I can observe the liquid level getting increased slightly for a moment while usage and nothing comes out of the outlet. Batteries are having correct polarity. Any idea about solution?
